Refree Runs Relay

Senior Jake Renfree traveled to Scotland to participate in the Junior Co-Ed Relay. Representing U.S.A. Track and Field, Renfree raced on January 12 in Stirling, Scotland.

In order to qualify for this position, Renfree needed to contact the organization participating in the event.

“It was something that I had to show interest in. I had to send in an email to USATF saying that I was interested, and then they would go back and look at how I had done in national races and my times in general and compare them to other people that applied,” Renfree explained.

Renfree was also given the chance to tour the surrounding areas of Scotland and bond with the other junior teammates.

“Thursday and Friday, I got to meet my teammates, who were three other high schoolers: one boy and two girls. I got to tour Edinburgh Castle and run around Scotland,” Renfree commented.

This race offered Renfree the chance to run with both professionals and other high school students from America and Europe. In addition to racing in another country and meeting professional athletes from around the world, Renfree also earned a Silver medal for his team, placing high amongst the 8 teams participating.

“It’s definitely an experience that I’ll cherish for the rest of my life just because it was so unique,” Renfree concluded.
